A simple pipe study at first glance, which sublty shows a spiritual plain hinting the voodoo Loa Papa Legba.
Voodoo (or Vodun as it is originally called in West Africa) is a big inspiration in the artist’s work for some time. As the artist grew deeply religious in his mid-twenties after cheating death he got more and more interested in spiritual and religious topics. SInce he doesn’t describe himself as christian or clear part of a abrahamic religion per se he seeks inspiration and influences for his concept of God. Voodoo being one of the strongest influences the artist learned much about this religion (some by accident). Especially the idea of a spiritual plain and spirits per se intrigued him since his early childhood. The Loa as they are called in the Caribbean or Lwa in West Africa, are the focal point of this artwork and many other vodun-inspired works in the future.
